Bio

Hello! I'm Ryan MacNeil hailing from the beautiful island of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. My solo album Shuffle, is a high energy Celtic music project inspired by dance. Over a two- year period of recording in Canada and South Africa, I used vocals, bagpipes, uilleann pipes, whistle, piano, saxophones, and keyboards to fuse together exciting new folk beats to dance from the concert hall to the kitchen floor.

For many years I have performed and recorded around the world with many Celtic acts (Slainte Mhath, The Barra MacNeils, and The Chieftains to name a few). Shuffle is the first recording project that I composed, arranged, recorded, mixed, mastered, and promoted on my own. I enjoy bringing musical traditions from the past into the sounds of today.  I love every minute of the process and I'm grateful to get the chance to be creative.

In recent years, I have been directing and co-creating The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts production of Highland Storm and have been writing/composing, including the school song for Farrermere Primary School in Benoni, South Africa where I am living today. When I'm home in Cape Breton, I focus on the music I grew up with and catch up with my friends and family (The Barra MacNeils).

Being creative has always been a large part of my life and my career has been an exciting journey.  I still look for new musical opportunities. Drop me a line if you are interested in a musical endeavor or just to say hello.

Enjoying life,

Ryan MacNeil
